You like listening to good music? You like having fun and meeting new people? Then the Roskilde Fetival in Danmark is perfect for you!Since 1971 the Roskilde Festival, also called the "Orange Festival" because of it's orange logo, has taken place every year around june.
There are another 100 000 visitors who attend the festival for a maximum of 10 days.
In general the festival is bigger and lasts longer than an usal Austrian festival. The first three days are called the "Warm up Days". During these days people mainly bring their own loudspeakers and play music from CD's. But no worries, there are also some live bands, who are basically new comers, mostly from Danmark.
During the following 7 days you can listen to bands from each genre. You can find DJ's playing drum'n'base as well as Rock and Metal bands.
Among many unknown bands there are also some very famous ones such as Turbonegro if you like Metal or Rihanna if you rather prefer Pop.
What I personally like best about the festival is that it is a non-profit event. That means all the money they make from the festival tickets, food and drinks is used to cover their expenses. Of course there will be still much money left. This is given to humanitarian, cultural- and non-profit projects all over the world. Since 1971 the festival, or rather the Roskilde Festival Charity Society which stands in the back, has donated over 25 million euros to diverse charity organisations e.g. Amnesty International.
For those who want to support charity and like Converse you can buy Roskilde Converse which were specificaly designed for this festival. If you buy one of those the whole profit will also be donated.
Futhermore the whole city Roskilde takes part in the festival as you can see orange posters, paintings, flags and even couches and chairs all around the city. During the festival time they put some soft couches into the city park where homeless people can sleep or students study.
Another point is that most entries to cultural sights such as the dome or the vikings museum are either reduced or even free.
So if you are interested in joining this festival make sure to be free from the June, 28th 2014 to July, 6th 2014!!!!
I am looking forward to seeing you there!
Down here you can see some of my awesome moments:
